The idea · Concept & build-day prototype
ProteinPlate is a smart steamer plate on a scale that tells you exactly what food to add and how much to hit your protein and fiber goals, then steams the meal in one pot.
Many people know they should eat more protein and fiber. But counting, weighing, and planning takes time and energy they don’t have. This is hardest for people with chronic illness or fatigue, who often need good nutrition the most.
How it’s designed to work
The touchscreen shows which food to add and how much: for example, 170 g chicken breast, 200 g sweet potato, and 150 g carrot.
The scale base weighs each portion live. A fill bar turns green when the amount is right, so you can leave the calculations to your plate.
Lift the stainless steamer plate off the base. Its folding feet hold the food above the boiling water, fitting standard 26–30 cm pots.
The guidance
Timed alerts tell you when to add faster-cooking vegetables. A temperature probe is designed to confirm the chicken reaches 74°C before the screen says the meal is ready.
Each meal’s protein and fiber are logged, and tomorrow’s portions adjust automatically to help you keep moving toward your goals.
Why I’m building this
I live with several autoimmune diseases. Eating the right balance of protein, fiber, and nutrients helped clear my cysts and fatigue and cut my body fat, but the planning and cooking were exhausting.
ProteinPlate removes the guesswork, so eating to your goals takes no math and no recipes, and anyone can cook a balanced meal in one pot.
Built for busy, health-focused adults who want to hit their daily protein and fiber goals without counting or manually weighing portions — including people with autoimmune or chronic conditions, fatigue, or fitness goals. A simpler routine for lunch and dinner at home.
Beyond the build day
Concept and build-day prototype: the scale base, guided-portion screen, and steamer plate design.
Build a working unit and test it with 10–20 users, including people with chronic conditions. Then add vitamin and mineral tracking.
Our longer-term vision: a fully automatic machine that washes, chops, and cooks raw ingredients into a balanced meal in 10 minutes.
